"Quite actually. The stew is meant to be made with dried spices left over from the winter before and those can be sharp after aging for a year. My sister could never tolerate it, but after my travels I enjoyed it much more."
He smiles. "That's the fun thing...you break it with a hammer and everyone gets a piece once it cracks apart. Everyone gets a turn to try and the one who manages it gets the biggest bit."
Percy nods as he gets his own bowl of stew. "Dry spices, depending on the
type, have a stronger flavor than fresh. Not all of them mind, but quite a
few from the Whitestone region do since we are in the mountains and growing
things in the soil is a bit harder than in lowlands."

I'm new to winter still, so I'm not used to spices 'aging' per se... but, I think I can handle sharp."
