I wonder why he never mentioned this story... maybe he doesn't want me running away to play with thieves. He always tells me not to talk to the servants' children.

Oh no, really? My best friend growing up was one of our servants' kids. [ He laughs guiltily. ] Buuut... I guess maybe it would've been better if I didn't play with him, ha ha, because he always had to let me win... Still, though... that sounds really lonely!

Had to let you win? [She pouts.] Where's the fun in that?

Still... it would be nice to know what that's like. To have a friend my age, I mean. There are only so many books to read, so much the tutors can teach me...

[Noting her sad tone, Rajah temporarily moves from Kalim's hand to lean into her, which manages to return her smile.]

It sucks, right? I didn't find out until way later... You're right, though. I really can't imagine what life would've been like without him.

[ He sighs. Watching Rajah move to comfort her makes Kalim smile, too, though. What a loyal tiger! ]

Of course we're friends! And this big guy seems like a really great friend to have, too.
